Remcom supports five major product lines—XFdtd, Wireless InSite, XGtd, VariPose, and Rotman Lens Designer (RLD). XFdtd, the flagship of the Remcom product line, is full-wave 3D EM analysis software for modeling and optimizing device design based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. XFdtd applications include antenna design, microwave circuits, scattering calculations, electromagnetic compatibility, photonic devices, and biological effects of electromagnetic fields. With these capabilities, Remcom has established a large customer base in multiple industry sectors and academic research industries.

In the Automotive Radar and Communication sector, Remcom’s products are used to simulate and analyze complete vehicles and multi-vehicle problems at millimeter wave frequencies, which assist automotive radar and vehicle-to-vehicle communication development. For Biomedical Electromagnetics, the company’s products provide the ability to simulate and analyze electromagnetic radiation in and around biological tissue, providing answers for MRI design, implantable medical devices and surface worn devices to better study the electromagnetic effects on the human body. Remcom’s antenna design capabilities have particularly influenced configuration for communications devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and notebook computers to optimize efficiency, far-zone coverage, and human tissue (SAR) exposure to users.
Experts at Remcom also assist government customers and contractors in developing their own software applications and research efforts to streamline core functionalities in military electronics and the defense sector.

Remcom’s clients include IBM, Ericsson, Samsung, Sony Texas Instruments, General Motors, Mitsubishi, and all branches of the United States military. KEC, one of Remcom’s clients that designs and manufactures EMC interconnect components and cable harness assemblies, was looking to strengthen its market leadership and differentiate itself from the competition by offering a unique technology. Because a failed component is so expensive KEC uses XFdtd to model and simulate their customers’ designs and identify problems early in the process. They can then recommend corrections before the EMC certification stage enabling their customers to avoid costly mistakes and pass certification testing on the first try. Simon Ireland, design and development engineer at KEC, says, “We chose XFdtd because the product is so easy to use. Its interface is intuitive, making it simple to set up complex problems. Remcom’s solution was head and shoulders above the others we evaluated.”

Remcom’s expertise in EM simulation technology and its familiarity with customer issues enable them to provide relevant assistance to customers. “As EM specialists, we have an edge over other providers that are very large and diversified. Our focus allows us to provide very targeted solutions and service. In addition, we have stayed ahead of the curve with acceleration solutions for EM simulation. We were one of the earliest innovators to accelerate calculations using graphics processing units (GPU cards) in 2008 and Message Passing Interface (MPI) for GPU clusters in 2013, and we remain the leader in quickly simulating complex, very large problems,” said Langdon.
